5G Qualcomm launches world’s first 5G and AI-enabled robotics platform
The Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform provides connectivity combined with energy-efficient interference capabilities at the edge of AI, enabling accelerated development of innovative, high-computing-power robots and drones for enterprise, industrial and professional services applications.
The Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform is based on the Robotics RB3 platform and consists of a comprehensive set of hardware, software and development tools. This platform is the first of its kind to combine the company's extensive 5G and AI expertise to enable developers and manufacturers to create the next generation of high performance, low-power, low-power robots and drones for the consumer, enterprise, defence, industrial and professional services markets - and Qualcomm's comprehensive Robotics RB5 Development Kit helps give developers the customisation and flexibility they need to turn their vision into a commercial reality.
Designed specifically for robotics applications, the platform's Qualcomm QRB5165 processor provides a powerful heterogeneous computing architecture combined with Qualcomm's leading fifth-generation Qualcomm AI engine, which delivers 15 Tera Operations Per Second (TOPS) AI performance for executing complex AI and deep learning workloads. The processor also offers incredible machine learning (ML) inferencing capabilities on the edge under limited power budgets with the new Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor Accelerator (HTA), a powerful image signal processor (ISP) with support for seven cameras simultaneously and a dedicated computer vision engine for advanced video analytics (EVA). With support for 4G and 5G connectivity speeds via an add-on module, the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform helps pave the way for the adoption of 5G in robotics and intelligent systems.
With the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform and Qualcomm QRB5165 processor, the company enables a variety of design offerings, including off-the-shelf system-on-module solutions and flexible chip-on-board designs. The solution is available in several options, including commercial and industrial-grade temperature ranges and an extended lifecycle option through 2029.
