SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY Combustion engine phase-out at Porsche for all models except the 911

Over 80 percent of all vehicles sold by Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG will be electric by the end of this decade, CEO Oliver Blume stated in an interview with Germany's Bild am Sonntag published on Sunday.

Porsche expects that by 2025 about half of the cars sold will be electrically powered. Except for the iconic 911 model, all other models are to be fully electrified by 2030.
All current models of the Zuffenhausen-based company are, for the most part, already offered in fully electric or hybrid variants. Porsche intends to continue offering the iconic 911 model with combustion engines, although these will then use synthetic fuels, the newspaper quotes the board as saying.

Initial successes and further development

The company plans to invest EUR 15 billion (USD18.1 billion) in its vehicle portfolio's electrification, the newspaper said. The all-electric Taycan, which is already available, sold more than 20,000 units to customers in the 2020 financial year, starting at 80,000 euros. Porsche plans to launch the next generation of the successful SUV Macan, only fully electric.

The Porsche 911, the company's icon, will continue to be offered with a combustion engine in the long term. Porsche is pinning its hopes on a sufficient supply of synthetic fuels to make the sports car even lower in emissions. Porsche has been committed to developing synthetic fuels for years and wants to participate in the development.

Aiming high

Porsche boss Blume aims to equip half of all cars sold by his company with an electric or electrically assisted drive by 2025. In its calculation for the future, Porsche assumes that the 911 will still account for around 20 percent of sales in 2030.
In 2020, the Corona crisis affected the premium carmaker's targets. From the targeted 300,000 vehicles, a total of 272,000 cars were distributed. The 2021 target is to produce 30,000 Taycans, 50 percent more than planned for 2020.
