3D Display Bosch brings 3D displays into our cars
Bosch is working on a new range of 3D display products that will enable passengers to understand information more quickly. The automotive supplier is planning to present these new products at the International Motor Show Germany 2019 (September 12 to 22) in Frankfurt am Main.
Automotive supplier Bosch is working on new 3D display products, which are designed to create a realistic three-dimensional effect using passive 3D technology. According to Bosch, passengers will be able to read and understand information on this display more quickly than on conventional screens, thanks to its depth of field.
From display to interactive system
“Vehicle screens are evolving from simple displays into interactive systems that respond to the driver’s individual needs,” says Steffen Berns, President of the Divisional Board of Bosch Car Multimedia. The automotive supplier wants to develop the right infotainment system for every customer. Particularly for a future of drivers being driven around with their cars on autopilot mode, the human-machine interface will take on a central role with regard to the interaction between cars and their drivers. On the cinema screen, the primary purpose of the 3D effect is to boost a film’s entertainment value.
In a car, it’s a different story: when parking, for example, the rear-view camera image is more realistic, allowing obstacles to be detected earlier. This 3D effect also plays a crucial role in navigating deep street canyons in major cities, as the spatial depth of the map display makes it immediately clear to the driver which building marks the next turn-off. Bosch uses passive 3D technology for its 3D display. It doesn’t require any additional technology such as eye-tracking or 3D glasses.
The automotive supplier sees enormous commercial potential in this technology: projections show that the global vehicle display market will have grown from USD 15 billion (EUR 13.4 billion) to USD 30 billion (EUR 26.7 billion) by 2025 (source: Global Market Insights).
